TENNIS MATERIAL EXCELLENT

Availability of Entire 1915 Team and Addition of New Men Makes Prospects Unusually Bright.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

From an analysis of available candidates for the University tennis team next spring, it would seem that an exceptionally successful season can be safely forecasted. All of the seven men who took part in the decisive victory over Yale last spring are again available. In addition to these men, there is some good material from the Sophomore class.

Brilliant Players Are Eligible.

In Captain R. N. Williams, 2d '16 the University has one of the strongest players in the country, as he is placed at number 2 in the United States ranking. He is also the present intercollegiate champion, and University champion, having gone through the entire season of 1915 without being defeated in a University match. G. C. Caner '17 will probably be second man. He is a brilliant player, and has improved every year since he won the interscholastic championship in 1913. R. Harte '17, who figured prominently in the winning of the intercollegiate championship last summer, will devote his time in the spring to baseball, though he will undoubtedly compete in the intercollegiates next summer. W. Rand, 3d '17 showed great improvement last year, especially on the southern trip, and should be even better this spring. Other men who have won their insignia and who are available are A. F. Doty '16, J. Wooldredge '16, L. Curtis, 2d '16, and J. S. Brown, Jr. '17. J. S. Pfaffman '16, who was ineligible last year, will be a likely candidate. From the class of 1918, H. G. M. Kelleher is a man who is certain to make a strong bid for a place on the team. E. B. Benjamin '18, W. D. D. Morgan '18, and H. Talcott '18 are also good players.

Interesting Schedules Promised.

The spring schedule has not yet been completed, but it will be fully as interesting as last year's. The second team schedule is also being arranged, and will be somewhat longer than usual. All the home matches of both teams will be played on the new courts on Divinity Field which are to be completed as soon as the ground is in good condition. Some arrangements for spectators are also being planned.

Freshman Prospects An Enigma.

Very little is known as yet about the prospects for the 1919 team. The Freshmen will have at least two good men in R. C. Rand, who was a finalist in the University championship tournament, and R. Kissel, who showed up well in the interclass matches. The schedule has been practically completed and calls for three more matches than the 1918 team played. In addition to the usual contests with Andover, Exeter, and the Yale freshmen, the team will meet Milton Academy, Browne and Nichols, and St. Mark's. The interdormitory matches for those who do not make the regular team will be arranged later.
