THREE WITNESSES CALLED IN TRIAL FOR FALSE ASSESSMENT

Heard Yesterday in Case Against Men Who Certified Statement of W. Townsend '16.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Three witnesses were called yesterday in the trial in which Herbert B. Harris and Arthur K. Reading are charged with signing a false certificate in connection with the assessment as a prospective voter of W. Townsend '16, last October. District Attorney Corcoran opened the case for the government, stating that Townsend's home is in Cohasset, and that Harris swore falsely when he certified him. Bernard F. Fallow, of the Cambridge Board of Assessors, was called as the first witness for the government, and testified that Townsend, Harris, and Reading were at the office of the board of assessors on October 11, and that he personally administered the oaths to the witnesses. Fallon said that he had not spoken of the matter until he was some weeks later called before the Middlesex grand jury.

Other witnesses called were Mr. Cody of the Cambridge Police force and W. Townsend '16. The case will be continued this morning at 10 o'clock.
