TRACK TIME-TRIALS BROUGHT OUT SPEEDY VETERAN RELAYS

Bingham Leads Way in Half-Mile.--Weight Event Material Promises Well for Spring.

In spite of the cold weather, time trials were held for all the relay teams yesterday afternoon. Two groups ran the 390-yard distance. W. Wilcox, Jr. '17 and H. W. Minot '17 were started off together, the former taking the lead and being able to keep it. T. R. Pennypacker '16, W. J. Bingham '16, and E. A. Teschner '17 ran together and on the last lap Captain Bingham came through with a strong sprint, passing Pennypacker on the last corner. H. W. Rose '19 made the fastest time of the Freshmen in a three-lap race. In the trial for the 780-yard team, R. D. Campbell '17 jumped into the lead at the start and defeated J. Coggeshall '18.

The first competitions in the weight events were held yesterday afternoon in the Baseball Cage. V. N. H. Bates '19 with a handicap of three feet won the 16-pound shot-put with a distance of 37 feet 7 inches. K. B. G. Parson '16 took second from scratch with a put of 37 feet 4 inches, and J. W. Cummings '19 was third, with 35 feet 8 inches and a handicap of 5 feet.

Starting from scratch, V. N. H. Bates '19 also won the 12-pound shot-put with a record of 40 feet 3 inches. Second place when to H. C. Flower '19 with a distance of 37 feet 4 inches and a 3-inch handicap. H. C. Hull '19, with a handicap of 6 inches, was third, with a put of 36 feet 10 inches.

W. Arnold '18 won the 35-pound-weight competition with a distance of 44 feet 8 inches and a handicap of 18 feet, while E. R. Roberts '16 was next with a record of 42 feet 4 inches from scratch.
