Harvard Training Quarters, Red Top, Conn., June 7. -- The University and Freshman crews arrived here this afternoon in time to take practice rows on the Thames at 5 o'clock. They rowed in a light rain with a westerly wind, the Freshmen going only to the 2-mile mark and back. Harwood was back at number four in the first University boat. Both University crews rowed three miles up and down stream, passing the Yale crews on the way down.
Improvements in Quarters.
The quarters were in order for the men when they arrived, and new bed fixtures assured good rest after the hard day's work. Supper was served at 6.15, the Freshmen eating with the University oarsmen in their house as they did last year, and afterwards Captain Murray outlined the routine of daily work.
The order of the crews today was as follows:
University crew.--Stroke, Lund; 7, Cabot; 6, Parson; 5, J. W. Middendorf, Jr.; 4, Harwood; 3, Stebbins; 2, Morgan; bow, Murray; cox., Kreger.
University second crew.--Stroke, Busk; 7, Meyer; 6, H. S. Middendorf; 5, White; 4, Talcott; 3, Potter; 2, Brown; bow, Whitmarsh; coxswain, Cameron.
Freshman crew.--Stroke, Wiggin; 7, Quimby; 6, Taylor; 5, Nathan; 4, Pope; 3, Williams; 2, Simonds; bow, Brazer; cox., Hawkins.
Yale Crews Have Arrived.
Thirty-five men including the members of the Yale first and second university crews as well as the freshman eight arrived at the Yale training camp at Gales Ferry, Conn., Sunday afternoon and immediately began their long daily grinds in final preparation for the regatta on June 25.
