Mr. X. H. Goodnow '82, of the state department of engineering, has completed a survey of Soldiers Field with a view towards reclaiming still more of the waste land in the northwest portion than is now in condition for use. As a result of this work, the Athletic Association has decided to install one test drain of a style advocated by Mr. Goodnow and the work on this will be done this summer. This one new drain will be sufficient to make two or three acres of the waste area usable, and these will be filled in as soon as the drain is installed. If the trial proves successful, other similar drains will be installed gradually as the demand requires until the entire field is reclaimed.
The work of filling in the already-drained land beyond the Freshman diamond in the vicinity of the shooting range has been proceeding rapidly this spring, and will be continued during the summer. With all these improvements it is expected that a fairly large area will be ready for use next fall.
