DRAMATIC CLUB PREPARES FOR ITS FALL SEASON

With the appointment of the staff for the December production of the Dramatic Club the work on the coming fall season has begun in earnest. The business management has started work on the summer advertising campaign, plans for the re-organization of the publicity department are in preparation and the stage management has begun negotiations with a prominent theatrical coach to take charge of the fall play. It is hoped that a worthy successor to Dr. Ordynski, director of the three plays presented this April, may be found.

The club is peculiarly fortunate in that none of its principal actors were lost through graduation this year. W. C. Boyden '16, M. A. Hawkins '18, S. B. Pleifer '16, H. Scholle '18, and J. W. D. Seymour '17 will all be available for next fall's production. In addition there are several other members of the club who were unable to take part in this year's performances.

Shortly after college commences there will be an open meeting of the Dramatic Club at which all members of the University interested in theatrical work should report to sign up for trials. Rehearsals will begin as soon as the play selected by the Graduate Advisory Committee has been announced.

At the same time the competition for the stage, business, and publicity management of the club will begin. The stage management, which includes the stage, property, and electrical departments, will be in charge of E. A. Whitney '17. The business end of the club, including the ticket and advertising departments will be in the hands of W. S. Mack '17, while W. H. Meeker '17 will have charge of the publicity department. The several departments, together with the actors cover the whole range of activities connected with a theatrical production and offer excellent training and experience for those interested in any branch of the work.

As soon as the announcement of the play selected has been made the competition for the poster design will be started. The winner of the competition will be elected an associate member of the club.

One of the most important departments of the Dramatic Club is that comprising the playwrights who provide plays for the various productions. Although it has been customary in past years to give a long play in the fall the rule is by no means inviolable and short plays are always acceptable. The playwriting competition, which will start early in October will continue till the middle of November. All manuscripts must be handed in to P. F. Reniers '16. The competition is open to members of the University, graduates, and members of Radcliffe College.
