The class crew and single scull races against Yale will be held in the Basin this afternoon. The times finally set for the events are single sculls at 4.10 o'clock, and the class race at 4.30 o'clock.
The Yale oarsmen arrived yesterday afternoon, and took a practice spin down the river, while the single scullers also took a try-out over their today's course. N. P. Darling '17 and B. Carpenter, Jr., '16 will represent the University in the single sculls, while Yale has sent down G. Burton and S. Gaillard. This race will be one mile in length and go from Cottage Farm bridge to Harvard bridge. The Sophomores will race over the mile and seven-eights course, starting at Cottage Farm bridge also and finishing at the Union Boat Club.
The class crew orders follow:
Sophomore crew. -- Stroke, White; 7, Potter; 6, Lovell; 5, Richardson; 4, Coolidge; 3, Webber; 2, Philips; bow, Ingalls; cox., Henderson.
Yale crew.--Stroke, Hume; 7, Wooley; 6, Green; 5, Bartlett; 4, R. Walker; 3, Ball; 2, Koehne; bow, L. Walker; cox., Hemingway.
Will Use Henley Signals.
A system of signals, similar to that used for the past century at the English Henley, has been arranged. There will be two courses: number one, which Yale rows on, and number two, which the Sophomores will use. Two signs are erected at Harvard bridge, one with Yale's number, one, and the other with Harvard's number, two. These will indicate the relative positions of the two boats at Harvard bridge, the mid-way mark, and at the finish.
