To the Editors of the CRIMSON:
All who have listened to the lectures of Mr. F. Hopkinson Smith must feel that his death means a real loss to the students of Harvard University. In the inculcation of courtesy which belonged to the older type of gentlemen he has brought home in his successive visits here a lesson than which none is more needed in American life. The value of his teaching moreover has always been exemplified as well as enhanced by his own rare charm of manner and of utterance. Even although his instruction abides in memory we shall yet miss the inspiring example of the teacher. BENJAMIN RAND '79.
