GOLF TRIALS ON OAKLEY COURSE

Competition for University Squad Starts Today.--1918 to Have Team.

Trials for the University golf team will begin at the Oakley Country Club this afternoon at 1.30 o'clock, and will extend until the spring vacation. Ten men will be retained after that time. Any candidates who have not left their names and a list of their afternoon classes at Leavitt and Peirce's must do so immediately.

Candidates for the newly organized Freshman team should sign up with the University candidates. The Freshman team, which is the first one ever organized, was approved by the Athletic Committee last Tuesday night and will begin its season at once. Arrangements are being made with the Newton Golf Club to allow the 1918 team the use of its course during three days of the week. H. D. Bassett '18 has been appointed temporary captain and R. S. Tufts '18, temporary manager.

The following matches in the spring trials have been arranged for this afternoon at 1.30 o'clock: J. G. Heyburn '16 vs. P. Winsor '15; J. W. Hubbell '17 vs. G. Gwathmey '18; E. P. Allis '15 vs. H. D. Bassett '18; L. H. Canan '17 vs. G. A. McCook '16; S. P. Griffitts '15 vs. J. Hutchins 17; F. R. Amory '17 vs. H. Goodspeed '16; W. F. Enwright '16 vs. J. I. Wylde '17. Should any of these men be unable to appear they should leave notice at Leavitt and Peirce's before 1 o'clock.
