The first important college crew race of the year comes on Saturday, when the first and second crews of Yale and Pennsylvania will race at Philadelphia over a one and one-half mile course. Coach Nickalls has worked the Yale crew unusually hard for this time of year, making it row about fifteen miles a day, and raising the stroke to thirty when it rows for speed. The Yale crews are rowing in English shells, with thole-pin rigs, but the seats are arranged in a straight line. The first crew contains three members of last year's regular crew, Captain A. D. Sturtevant., J. R. Sheldon, and S. Low, 2d.
