The work of the University baseball team is already well started and with the calling out of fielding candidates soon will be thoroughly under way. Battery candidates have been working in the Cage for over two weeks under the tutelage of Dr. Sexton and Steve White, a former Princeton player.
The outlook for the team this year is bright. For battery material the team will have four veteran "H" men: R B. Frye '15, E. W. Mahan '16, and W. Whitney '16, as pitchers, and J. B. Waterman '15, as catcher. W. Willcox, Jr., '17, pitcher, and R. Harte '17, catcher, will make strong bids for regular positions. Harte was the heaviest hitter on last year's Freshman team.
Outfield positions will be well filled by veterans, since F. G. Fripp '16, R. T. Gannett '15, and H. R. Hardwick '15 are all available. Three infielders with University experience remain: H. L. Nash '16, M. B. Phillips '15, and Captain R. R. Ayres '15. For the other places the strongest contenders will probably be G. E. Abbot '17 and C. S. Reed '17. Besides the strong nucleus formed by these men, there are many able second string players for all the positions.
