The University fencing team was defeated by Yale 5 bouts to 4 Saturday night at New Haven in the first dual match preliminary to the intercollegiate fencing meet to be held at the Hotel Astor in New York, April 3 and 4. T. J. Putnam '15 proved the star of the University team, winning all of his bouts.

A record of the bouts in order follows: T. J. Putnam '15, defeated Little (Y.), 6-3; Pflieger (Y.), defeated E. A. L. Shortt '17, 8-4; Nickerson (Y.), defeated B. S. Nichols '16, 8-4; T. J. Putnam '15, defeated Pflieger (Y.), 9-8; Nickerson (Y.), defeated E. A. L. Shortt '17, 7-6; B. S. Nichols '16, defeated Little (Y.), 6-5; T. J.
