BATTERY CANDIDATES PRACTISE IN CAGE--DR. SEXTON IN CHARGE

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Spring practise for the University baseball team will begin Monday afternoon. On that day all battery candidates for the University nine will report in the Baseball Cage at Soldiers Field at 2 o'clock.

Dr. Franck J. Sexton will again have charge of the coaching this season. R. R. Ayres '15, captain, will assist Dr. Sexton in the instruction of the new candidates during the early part of the training.

The early part of the season will be spend largely in indoor practise in the Cage, where the battery candidates will pitch to dummies. Later the fielders will be called out for fielding and batting practise in the Cage. The squad will take to the Soldiers Field diamond as soon as weather permits in the spring for outdoor work before the spring training trip to the South, which will come during the April recess.

For this year's team, R. B. Frye '15, and E. W. Mahan '16 will be the main-stays in the box, and W. Willcox '17 will probably bear a good part of the burden. J. A. Gilman '16 is expected to report for the team and may be a useful twirler during the latter part of the season. J. B. Waterman '15 and R. Harte '17 are catchers of recognized ability. There will be great opportunity, however, for new men to show worth and it is hoped that the team may have the benefit of selecting the best men from a large squad of candidates.
