The Exeter hockey team defeated the Freshmen by the score of 4 to 3 in a fast and closely contested game in the Stadium on Saturday. The Exeter team started off with a rush and scored their first goal after four minutes of play. After some fast dashes, Nute scored Exeter's second goal when seven and a half minutes had elapsed. For a while the playing of both teams was pretty even, but finally Exeter rallied and scored two goals in the last two minutes of the half.
With a score of four to nothing against them at the beginning of the second half, the Freshmen came back strong and out-played their opponents. Rice scored for the 1918 team on a hard drive after five minutes of play. The Freshmen then got working together and in the middle of the period Captain Percy made another goal. The third goal for the Freshmen was made with only a minute and a half left to play. In spite of their remarkable rally, the whistle blew before the 1918 players could overcome Exeter's lead.
For Exeter, Comerford and Captain Lowe at point and coverpoint, respectively, put up much the best game, while for the Freshmen, Captain Percy was easily the star.
The summary: Score--Exeter 4, Freshmen 3. Goals--Brown, Coll, Nute, Martin, Rice, Morgan, Percy. Referee--Saltonstall. Goal judges--Withington, Greeley. Timekeepers--Brown, Connell. Length of halves--20 minutes.
