UNIVERSITY ELEVEN PUT THROUGH LONG WORK-OUT

With a long schedule of work to be done, yesterday's practice in the Stadium began early, and for nearly two hours and a half the University football squad was put through a thorough drill in the theory and practice of the game.

At 2.30 o'clock the ends and backs went out on the field and had a half-hour of kicking and passing, the ends warming up by covering the punts sent out by Mahan, Horween, and Robinson. The period from 3 to 3.30 o'clock was given over to a black-board talk in the Locker Building, after which Mahan led his squad out to the Stadium for the real work of the day.

The preliminary drill consisted of starting practice for the ends and linemen and place-kicking for the backs, at which four squads worked out from all possible angles of the field. The next in order was a shift to drop-kicking for the backs, and a series of Yale plays staged by the seconds for the ends and linemen. The surprise of the day came when Coach Haughton led his squad of coaches against Team A for an 8-minute scrimmage, in which King, after a long series of line plays from the middle of the field, scored a touchdown from the one-yard line. The seconds were then called in and for a short time they put on more Eli formations for the University team. Snappy signal drills for Team A and B completed the afternoon's practice.

R. C. Curtis and Rollins were given a further rest from today's work, but they will undoubtedly be out in uniform this afternoon
