HOCKEY PROSPECTS OUTLINED

Nine "H" Men Back From Last Year's Team and Promising Material From 1918 Available.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

With nine "H" men from last year's squad in College, and plenty of good material from the successful 1918 team, prospects for the coming hockey season are excellent. Only two members of last year's team have graduated, W. H. Claflin '15, captain and coverpoint of the seven last season and M. B. Phillips '15, forward. E. M. Wanamaker '16, who played a forward last year, is now studying at Technology. The nine veterans to return are E. O. Baker '17, forward; R. Baldwin '17, forward; A. Cunningham '16, forward; L. Curtis '16, forward; A. F. Doty '16, defense; T. K. Fisher '17, forward; J. E. P. Morgan '17, defense; G. Townsend '17, forward; and J. I. Wylde '17, goal.

There should be no trouble in building up a strong defense around Captain J. E. P. Morgan at point, and J. I. Wylde, who played goal last season. There are several possible candidates for Claflin's position at coverpoint, including C. S. Clark '16, A. F. Doty '16, T. H. Eckfeldt '17, A. W. Gardner '18 and T. C. Thacher '18. The two vacancies left in the line by Phillips and Wanamaker should be satisfactorily filled by the substitutes and Freshmen of last year. E. B. Condon '18, W. O. Morgan '18, G. A. Percy '18, who was Freshman captain, and M. Taylor '18 all did excellent work in the forward line of the 1918 team, while of last year's second-string men E. O. Baker '17, L. Curtis '16 and T. K. Fisher '17 all won their letters. Two of these men, with R. Baldwin '17 and G. Townsend '17, who will probably fill their old positions at left wing and centre respectively, should constitute a fast and sure forward line. H. M. Bliss '17, P. S. Howe '17 and L. M. Lombard '17, who have not yet won their letters, are also possible candidates for the line positions. There will be a meeting of all candidates for the squad about December 1. Regular practice will begin at that time, and will consist mainly in conditioning runs and shooting practice, until the opening of the Arena a week later.

The University last year won eight of the twelve games played, taking both the Princeton and Yale series. As Dartmouth defeated the University team, and Yale defeated Dartmouth the championship was left a tie. The results of the games were as follows: Harvard 6, Technology 2; Harvard 1, B. A. A. 3; Harvard 1, Queen's College 2; Harvard 8, Cornell 1; Harvard 4, Princeton 1; Harvard 2, Dartmouth 4; Harvard 5, Princeton 1; Harvard 4, Yale 2; Harvard 0, McGill 1; Harvard 9, Williams 1; Harvard 4, St. Nicholas 3; Harvard 3, Yale 1.
