There was an encouraging increase in the number of candidates for the cross-country teams yesterday and Coach Shrubb took the University squad for a five-mile run over the cemetery course ending up by circling about the baseball diamond. The Freshmen followed the University runners, while the second squad went more easily over the two-mile course.
The training table will start at the Varsity Club on Monday at 8.15 o'clock and the following men will report: R. W. Babcock '17, R. S. Cook '17, R. H. Davison '17, K. E. Fuller '16, C. J. North '17, R. T. Twitchell '16, and W. P. Whitehouse, 2d, '17. More men will be added as the season advances.
W. D. Hutchinson '19 has been appointed captain of the Freshman team. He comes from Milton Academy, where he run on the track team and won the mile in the B. A. A. interscholastic meet last year.
The morning walks at 7.45 o'clock will continue, and all candidates are expected to run or walk four miles sometime today.
