An unfortunate feature of some football games is that they are not always conducted with the maximum amount of good feeling and courtesy on the part of either players or spectators. But Saturday's game with the University of Virginia set a high standard in those respects. No one who saw the contest could help being impressed with the excellent spirit and sportsmanship of the Virginia players and supporters. It was clearly demonstrated that a battle can be fought with the greatest vigor and determination and at the same time with consideration of opponents. After the game the two teams enjoyed a pleasant evening at the Varsity Club and the theatre in Boston.
We have all heard a great deal about southern courtesy and hospitality. Saturday gave a strong proof of the former. We hope that the Virginians cannot complain of the University's standard in the latter. Games played, and visits made and received, in the spirit of last Saturday foster that friendly understanding between Harvard and the universities of the South which has been so encouraging a feature of recent athletics.
