Over 650 Freshmen attended the first meeting of 1918 held in the Union last evening and presided over by Dean Briggs. The latter introduced Dean Yeomans, who spoke with special reference to the purpose of and hopes for the new Freshman dormitories, pointing out that the ultimate success of the project rested with the Freshmen themselves. Dr. Roger Lee '02 explained the newly inaugurated system of physical examination.

William Cameron Forbes '02 and Major Higginson '55 spoke of Harvard as a college which gives one the ability to handle and deal with men. Major Higginson dealt at length with the European situation and the effect it will have on us.

President Lowell declared that the chief object of the Freshman dormitories is to put the first year men into the position and ways of college men at the outset. He, too, spoke of the war in Europe, urging all to realize their responsibilities.
