1917 Crew Developed Slowly

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Candidates for the Freshman crew were called out in February. Rather few candidates as compared to those in former years reported, there being a particular scarcity of big men. The crew was put on the river the second week in March and has been developing slowly but steadily ever since. At the time of the Easter vacation the crew was not as far advanced as Freshman crews of late years, but made a creditable showing, nevertheless, against Cornell's remarkable Freshman eight.

Since arriving at Red Top the men have improved markedly. Two changes have been made which have strengthened the boat materially. The first week of practice was devoteted to acquiring smoothness. The Yale Freshmen are reported strong, but another week's work at Red Top should easily bring the 1917 eight up to the standard of previous crews.
