BALL TEAMS ELSEWHERE

Progress of Other College Nines Which Will Face. University in Remaining Games of Season.

After today's contest with Syracuse, the University baseball team has 16 games left to play with 12 different teams. Since the season is almost half over, the records to date of Harvard's chief opponents in the coming games give a fair idea of their strength.

Yale's early season record has been far from brilliant, only four victories having been secured in the nine games played. Weak batting and poor work in the box have been the chief difficulties. Georgetown swamped the Yale nine early in the week by a 10 to 1 score. Princeton has played consistent ball throughout the season, winning 8 out of 12 games. Virginia is the only strong team, however, that Princeton has defeated, the southern nine losing twice.

Pennsylvania Looming Up.

Another strong nine is Pennsylvania with 7 victories to its credit. Its record is especially good, including as it does victories over Yale and Princeton. Columbia has been Penn's worst stumbling block, accounting for two of the latter's four defeats. Although Cornell has won two-thirds of the nine games played, the record is not very impressive, for no really strong teams have been met. The victories over Virginia and Georgetown, however, give evidence of strength.

Of the smaller nines, Brown, with a victory over Yale, and only one defeat in six games, has shown the greatest ability. The records of other important teams are as follows: Dartmouth won 5, lost 4; Holy Cross won 4, lost 3; Vermont won 5, lost 3; Amherst won 5, lost 3; and Lafayette, won 4, lost 2.
