The first round of the Championship and Novice Chess Tournaments begins today. Five men have entered the championship match. They will play a round-robin series, each man playing two games with every other competitor. The eighteen competitors in the Novice Tournament are divided into three groups. Each man will play one game with every other contestant. The two best in each group will make up the final division which will play a double round-robin series to decide the winner. The first round must be finished by March 28.
