The Glee, Mandolin, and Banjo Clubs will give a dual concert with Dartmouth at Hanover on Saturday, February 14. About fifty men will make the trip, leaving Boston on a special car at 11.05 Saturday morning, and returning at 3.20 the following afternoon. The men will take luncheon on the train going down, and while in Hanover will be the guests of the Dartmouth Clubs. The concert falls during Dartmouth's Winter Carnival, which takes place on February 12, 13, and 14. It will be preceeded by a basketball game with Yale, and followed by a prom, both of which will be attended by the Harvard en.
Until last year, it had been the custom of the two Colleges to hold an annual concert in Jordan Hall the night before the Dartmouth football game. But on the revision of the football schedule, this concert had to be abandoned. It is hoped, however, that it will be found possible to invite Dartmouth to Boston next year.
Several Concerts Arranged for Spring.
On Wednesday, February 18, the Clubs will travel to Fall River to give a concert there under the auspices of the Harvard Club of Fall River. The concert will be followed by a dance. On March 3, the Clubs will perform in West Newton, here also being entertained at a dance, and on April 18, the night before the spring vacation, will give their annual concert at the Harvard Club of New York. A special train will take the men to Providence on April 29, and on May 14 the Glee Club in conjunction with the Radcliffe choir will render choral music in Sanders theatre.
Cornell Clubs May Visit Boston.
In addition to the above, there are a few concerts for which the dates have not yet been fixed. Among these are Wellesley and Northampton. The date of the crew race with Cornell has been tentatively set as May 26, and it is hoped that it may be arranged to bring the the Cornell Musical Clubs to Boston for a dual concert in Jordan Hall the night preceeding. In general, however, the Clubs will not give so many concerts as in past years, because a full schedule makes too great a demand on the time of the members.
The Freshman Musical Clubs will be organized and candidates called out directly after the mid-year period. A manager will be appointed, and a schedule of some three or four concerts near Boston will be arranged for the Clubs.
Musical Association May Incorporate.
Plans for the Glee Club Meet in New York are now waiting upon the definite organization of the Intercollegiate Musical Association, under whose auspices the competition will be held. A definite constitution and by-laws are needed before any contracts can be drawn. It has been proposed to incorporate the Association so as to give it definite standing in the business world, but this will probably not be accomplished until after this year's concert. It has also been proposed to change the date of the present concert from Saturday, May 9, to a Wednesday or a Thursday on the ground that the audience would be larger.
