EXTENSIVE PLANS FOR ROWING

Voluntary Work for All Candidates Immediately After Recess.

Voluntary work under the direction of Coach Wray for all candidates for the University and Freshman crews will begin immediately after the Christmas recess on the machines in the Newell boat-house. Inexperienced men are advised to take advantage of this opportunity to learn some of the rudiments of rowing form. Organized practice will begin directly after the end of the examination period, the early work consisting for the most part of practice on the machines and in the tank at Newell together with cross-country running. After the ice breaks on the river practice will be held from both the Newell and Weld boat-houses.

A cut will be made in the University squad sometime in March, leaving just enough men for two eight-oars and the necessary substitutes. Secondary rowing will be more strongly emphasized this spring than in any recent year, the men who are cut from the University squad being organized into class crews which will follow a season of regular training and races. It is intended to make class and interdormitory rowing a distinctive feature of the season. While nothing definite has as yet been decided upon it is probable that a University regatta day will be scheduled, to consist of races of all kinds between eight-oars, four-oars, pairs, single shells, "comps" and wherries.

The tentative University schedule includes a repetition for the first crew of last year's visit to Annapolis during the April recess; races for the University and Freshman crews against Cornell at Ithaca in May, and the usual struggles against Yale on the Thames. There is also a possibility that a second University crew yill be sent to the American Henley at Philadelphia during the latter part of May.
