A reception will be tendered to Major Henry Lee Higginson '55, in the Union tonight at 8 o'clock, in honor of the eightieth anniversary of his birth which he celebrated last week. As donor of the Union and Soliders Field he is widely known among the alumni and undergraduates of the University. In addition his example of philanthropy, indicated not only by unusual gifts to the University but also by patriotic service to his country has won for him the respect of his associates. It was largely through his efforts that the Boston Symphony Orchestra has attained its present position in the musical world. Major Higginson, although occupied with many enterprises still devotes much of his time to the University. President Lowell, President Eliot, Bishop Lawrence '71, and C. E. Brickley '15 will also address the meeting.
