SYRACUSE HELD TO ONE HIT

PITCHER FRYE'S EXHIBITION AND SURE FIELDING RESPONSIBLE FOR SHUT-OUT.

Frye was at his best yesterday and pitched the University team to a shut-out victory over Syracuse on Soldiers Field. The final score was 3 to 0. Frye's work was by far the best exhibition of pitching that has been seen here this season. He not only held the visitors to one scratch hit but did not give a base on balls throughout the nine innings. Only twenty nine men faced him during the game and in seven innings he disposed of the first three men at bat.

The Harvard team played good baseball in the field and gave Frye excellent support. At the bat, the men hit well when hits meant runs. The fielding features were Wingate's stop of Foley's grounder over second base in the fifth inning and Agnew's catch of a long hard drive from Ayres in the sixth. Captain Wingate's hitting was the batting feature, as he got three singles out of four times at bat.

Harvard scored one in the first when Alsop got a base on balls, went to third on Farber's wild throw to catch him at second and scored on Wingate's single to left.

The remaining two were added in the fourth. Tomes got a base on balls, went to second on Young's sacrifice, reached third on Frye's single, scoring when Farber again threw wild to catch him, Frye went to third on the throw and scored when Wingate got his third hit of the game.

Syracuse played good ball, their infield being one of the fastest that has een here this year. Nichols was generous with bases on balls, however, and this fact combined with the timely hitting of the University team was the cause of his downfall. HARVARD.   a.b.  r.  b.h.  p.o.  a.  e.
