UNIVERSITY SOCCER TEAM WON IMPORTANT INTERCOLLEGIATE MATCH SATURDAY.

The University soccer team won the second game of its Intercollegiate League Series by defeating Haverford 4 to 2 on Soldiers Field Saturday afternoon.

Encouraged by their victory over Cornell a week before, the University team showed much improvement and played a fast, steady game. Haverford threatened Harvard's goal early in the game, and scored after three minutes of play. The University men strengthened quickly, however, and scored four goals before allowing Haverford their final tally in the last few minutes of the match. One of the goals scored by Harvard was due largely to luck, for the goal was scored on a header by Rountree, of Haverford, which missed and went into his own goal. Locke scored another goal when three of the Haverford forwards, following a rolling ball, rushed the Haverford goal through his net. Hardwick scored a goal in the second half, and Captain Barron made the other score on a free kick from penalty.

Stokes scored both goals for the losers, and played a clever game.

The University's two soccer victories leave her with a perfect score. Harvard meets Yale at New Haven next Saturday, and the contest will probably be a critical one, inasmuch as Yale, who won the series last year, has shown much strength this year. Yale held the strong Crescent Athletic Club to a 4 to 3 score Saturday.
