TIMELY RALLIES WON GAME

A batting rally in the eighth inning, netting a total of ten runs, enabled the University baseball team to defeat Bates yesterday afternoon by the score of 11 to 3. The other tally was made in the fifth inning on hits by Felton and Wingate, an error by the visitors, and Clark's sacrifice fly to centre field. Up until the eighth inning Bates was leading by the score of 3 to 1.

Pitcher Stinson started out in a manner which threatened a repetition of Saturday's performance as far as Harvard's hitting was concerned. Until the eighth inning only three hits were made from his delivery and two of these were of the scratch variety. In the eighth session, however, after three successive singles were made, Anderson was substituted and he fared badly. The University team batted around once and were well on the way for a second circuit before the third man was put out. Combined with the timely hitting, two errors contributed by Bates in this inning were a great help in increasing the University team's lead, Tome's single, after having two strikes called on him, was also particularly timely.

Improvement in Fielding.

The University team showed some improvement in the field, having only two errors. Felton pitched good ball after the first inning when he allowed two hits which resulted in Bates's first run. After that he steadied down and struck out the next four men who faced him. Hardy and Hitchcock who replaced him in the eighth and ninth respectively pitched well, each disposing of three men.

As in the last two games the men played too much of a waiting game at the plate, and allowed too many good balls to pass.
