FIRST DAY OF TENNIS PLAY

Trials for the University and Freshman tennis teams commenced on the Jarvis Field courts yesterday afternoon. The trials are being rushed this year, and no candidates will be allowed to enter the trials who do not leave their names immediately with A. J. Lowrey '13, Holworthy 5, for the University team, and R. N. Williams '16, 12 Hawthorn street, for the Freshman team.

The results of the matches yesterday were as follows: J. C. Devereux '14 defeated A. J. Lowrey '13, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4; E. H. Woods '14 defeated E. R. Hastings, Jr., '14, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1; E. S. Draper '15 defeated G. Sturgis '13, 6-4, 12-10; R. G. Vickery '13 defeated D. B. Buffum '14, 6-3, 5-7, 7-5; H. A. Lawton '14 defeated R. H. Kettell '14, 6-2, 7-5; M. A. Hofer '15 defeated G. F. Plimpton '14, by default; W. W. Whitney '15, defeated C. A. Herter '15, 9-7, 8-6; H. Wainwright '15 defeated T. B. Lewis '13; R. L. Whitman '14 defeated D. Kimball '15, 8-6, 4-6, 9-7; O. Williams '14 defeated S. Minot '13, 6-1, 7-5.

Results in the Freshman trials were as follows: J. S. Pfaffman defeated F. S. Hyde, 6-8, 6-1, 6-4; J. Wooldridge defeated A. S. Peabody, 6-1, 6-4; C. C. Felton defeated A. F. Doty, 0-6, 6-0, 6-4; A. D. Holmes defeated W. F. Hunt, 6-4, 6-1; L. Curtis, 2d, defeated L. W. Devereux, 6-4, 6-0; R. N. Williams defeated W. Campbell, 6-0, 6-2.
