Yesterday afternoon three University crews and the first Freshman rowed a very close race for a little over a mile down-stream in the upper part of the Basin. The first and second University crews gave the third and the Freshmen one length handicap. The race was very even, the crews never stringing out enough to show open water. At the finish abreast of Gloucester street the Freshmen led by about a length with the first, second, and third University crews about a quarter of a length apart in that order.
Vacation Rowing.
The first and second University crews and the first and second Freshman crews will return to Cambridge Wednesday morning to row, and will practice twice a day for the last four days of the week. During this time there will be at least two practice races, and the University crew will give the new short-sterned shell a thorough try-out. This boat was not very satisfactory last year, but since then it has been rerigged and improved
