SOCCER SEASON OPENS TODAY

The University soccer team will play the first game of its season with Lynn Fosse on Soldiers Field today at 3 o'clock. The outlook for the team this year is bright, although only six of last year's regular players are back, Captain E.L. Barron '13, H.G. Francke '14, O. Needham '13, B.B. Locke '13, G.M. Rushmore '13, and C.H. Weston '14. Last fall, however, the team had a chance to develop team work, although it was not until late in the season that it struck its stride, owing to the new men who were added to the squad from time to time. The weak point of the men last fall was their shooting, but there will be plenty of time to develop that before the intercollegiate season begins, in the latter part of this month. Last spring Harvard placed third in the intercollegiate series; this year there appears to be a good chance of its getting the championship. Before the season commences, the team will play a few practice games with local teams.

The backfield is particularly strong with Captain Barron, Rushmore, Francke, and Weston. The forwards are fairly fast, but only recently have they developed team work, and their shooting is still erratic. Nichols at goal played consistently all fall and should be a strong man for that position this spring. With this early start, and several practice games, Coach Burgess and Captain Barron should be able to develop an excellent team before the intercollegiate season opens.
