The plans for the coming season of the University golf team have just been announced. A schedule including eight matches with teams from New England country clubs and other colleges is being arranged for the spring, and the University team will be entered in the intercollegiate championship tournament next fall. Regular practice will commence immediately after the April recess.
Most of the candidates for the team will start playing as soon as the weather becomes more settled. Trials for positions on the team will commence at the Oakley Country Club links on April 21, and will continue for two or three weeks, all of the leading candidates competing against each other in a series of matches until the team is definitely chosen.
The University championship play will commence on May 20, on which date all the entrants will compete in an 18-hole qualifying round. The sixteen making the lowest scores will start the match play rounds at once, so that the finals can be played early in the June examination period.
Leading Candidates.
The University team will open the season with unusually good prospects, for all of last year's team will be eligible for the spring matches. F. C. Davidson '13, present intercollegiate champion, and W. V. Booth, Jr., '13, will play in the spring, but will have graduated before the intercollegiate tournament. Other members of last year's squad now in College are: F. V. Burton, Jr., '14, B. W. Estabrock '15, S. P. Griffitts '15, and Captain F. Sargent '14. E. P. Allis '15, present College and Wisconsin State title holder, who was unable to play last year on account of illness, is eligible, and should be a leading member of the University team.
