Summer School Announcement

The Summer School of Arts and Sciences will open this year on July 1 and close on August 12. Summer instruction has been offered at Harvard for more than forty years, a longer period than at any other university in this country. The summer courses were primarily established in order to provide university instruction for teachers, and were planned in the belief that short-term study can be made most effective by concentration on a single subject. Thus a student is expected to enroll regularly in only one course, and to give that for six weeks his whole time and effort.

Since the work is more rapid than in term-time, it is possible to make the courses full equivalents of the University "half-course" of the academic year, to which they strictly correspond in standard. Nearly all the courses may be counted for the degree of A.B. or S.B., provided, however, that the student obtains a grade of C, or higher.

Each student must register in person at the Office of the Summer School before June 30 and must pay the Bursar the registration fee of $3 and the tuition which ranges, for the various courses, from $20 to $40.
