CREW PRACTICE PROGRESSING

Work on Machines for University and Freshman Candidates.--Orders Are Still Indefinite.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The University crew squad has been working regularly on the machines and in the tank at the Newell Boathouse for the past few weeks under the direction of Coaches Wray, Stevenson, and Brown, and Captain Abeles. Only three of last year's Varsity eight are in College this year besides Captain Abeles. These are A. M. Goodale '13, L. H. Mills '14, and Q. Reynolds '14.

The preliminary work of the men has been very satisfactory. Just what the final order will be, however, cannot be determined for some time. The present order in the first boat is as follows: stroke, B. Pirnie '15, of last year's Freshman eight; 7, Q. Reynolds '14; 6, B. Harwood '15, of last year's Freshman eight; 5, L. H. Mills '14; 4, F. H. Trumbull '14, of last year's University four; 3, G. F. Stratton '13, of last year's University four; 2, G. von L. Meyer '13, who rowed on the University four two years ago, but was unable to row last year on account of an injury; bow, E. D. Mor- gan, Jr., '13, of last year's University four.

It is too early to say anything definite concerning the prospects of the crew. When they will be put on the river depends entirely upon the weather, but it is hoped that it will be possible about the second week in March.

Freshman Material Promising.

About 70 men are also working regularly for the Freshman crews. Most of the men who are at present in the first Freshman boat have had more or less experience before coming to College. The material, however, looks unusually promising, but it will probably take more or less out-door work to determine what material is of real value. Until then it will be impossible to make any prophecy
