CONVENTIONS DURING VACATION

Modern Language Association and Oral English Teachers Will Meet.

The Modern Language Association of America will hold its thirty-first annual meeting in conjunction with the American Philological Association under the auspices of the University on December 29, 30, and 31. All sessions of both associations will be held in Emerson Hall. The first session of the Modern Language Association will be held on Monday, December 29, at 2.30 o'clock. At 8 o'clock on Monday evening both Associations will assemble in Emerson D. where they will be welcomed to the University by Professor G. H. Palmer, after which there will be a reception in the Union.

Meeting of Teachers of Oral English.

Another convention to be held here during the recess is that of the Association of New England Teachers of Public Speaking and Oral English. Four sessions will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, December 31 and January 1. The first meeting on the evening of December 31 will take place in the Union. There will be a dinner and addresses by Professor I. L. Winter, the present president of the organization, and President Eliot, followed by a general discussion of the subject "Oral English." The chief papers will be read by Professor E. Chariton Black, of Boston University, and Mr. F. W. G. Hersey, of the Department of English.
