AMES COMPETITION UNDER WAY

Eight Law Clubs Finish First Round.--Schedule of Second Round.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The first round of the Ames Competition in the Law School was completed last night; a list of the winning clubs will be found below. This year 24 clubs entered the competition, necessitating a preliminary round which eliminated all but sixteen.

The fund given by Mrs. James Barr Ames in memory of her husband, who was dean of the Law School from 1895 to 1910, provides for two prizes, which this year will consist of law books. The winner in the final round will be awarded first prize, and the other contestant in that round will receive second prize. An additional prize has been offered for the best brief submitted in the competition. Individual prizes will be given to each member of the second year court of the winning club.

Conditions of the Contest.

According to Section 5 of the Ames Competition Rules, "the judges in making their award shall consider the ability shown in preparing briefs, in presenting arguments, in accurately and succinctly stating the authorities cited, and in meeting questions put by the court during the argument." The relative weight to be given to the various factors is entirely in the discretion of the judges.

Next year, due to a change in the rules, the purpose of which is to stimulate more interest in the work of second-year clubs, the competition will extend over two years instead of one, the final rounds being argued in the third year.

The schedule of the clubs retained for the second round is as follows:

Bryce vs. Harlan.

Ames-Gray vs. Cooley.

Kent vs. Moody.

English 6 vs. Westengard.
