NEW PLAYS BY HARVARD MEN

Allan Davis '07 has written another play. "Gloomy Fanny," which was produced for the first time last week at the Duquesne Theatre, Pittsburgh. Mr. Davis was a student in English 47 while in College and his first play. The Promised Land." Was produced by the Dramatic Club and has since been published. His second drama, "A House Divided," was produced at the Hyperion Theatre, New Haven. "Under the Law" was first performed at the Duquesne Theatre, and, after being renamed "The Iron Door," was presented at the Hyperin Theatre on January 29, 1913, and in Chicago at the Chicago. Opera House on March 9, 1913. The present play is a comedy drama.

Mr. Mackaye's New Play.

"Tomorrow," by Percy Mackaye '97, was recently produced at the Little Theatre, Philadelphia, where it received an enthusiastic reception. Mr. Mackaye is now rehearsing a new play which the Shuberts are to produce shortly in New York. This play, "Turandot, Princess of Pekin," is an original fantastic comedy in verse on a theme from the same Arabian Night's tale as the older Gozzi-Schiller "Turandot." It is not a revision or rewriting of that play, as has been stated, but an entirely new piece.

Mr. Mackaye's Bird Masque, "Sanctuary," performed last summer in Corinth, N. H., with the author and Miss Wilson in the title roles, will be repeated in New York on a large scale on February 10 under the auspices of the Civic Forum and National History Museum. It, also, is in press and will be published by the F. A. Stokes Co.

In collaboration with Mr. Joseph Linden Smith. Mr. Mackaye has been commissioned to write and devise a large-scale civic drama for Saint Louis, to be known as. "The Masque of Saint Louis." Preparations have been started for this spectacle, which is to be performed next May. About a thousand persons will participate in this masque which is to be given on an out-door stage so constructed that an audience of 100,000 may witness the performance.
