HANDICAP CREW RACE AT 4

Three University Eights to Close Profitable Fall Rowing Season With Race in Basin.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The three University crews will finish a profitable fall season this afternoon. A handicap race will be held over the regular mile and seven-eighths course in the Charles River Basin. The exact handicaps have not yet been decided upon, but the third crew will probably start between one and two lengths ahead of the second and the second an equal distance ahead of the University crew, in order that the finish may be as close as possible.

Practice yesterday was light as each crew went up-stream only as far as the first bridge, and took short stretches to keep with Coach Wray, who accompanied the boats in a single. He spent most of his time coaching the men to keep length in their strokes when rowing fast, where the tendency in most boats is to chop the strokes short and rush the slide back, thus losing much power.

The University crew rowed, alone, while the second and third tried some starts together on the home stretch, the second gaining between quarter and half a length on the third each time.

Fall Season Successful.

That the fall season this year has been an undoubted success is the opinion not only of Coach Wray and Captain Reynolds, but also of all the men on the squad. With comparatively light practice and no strict training, the crews have all developed satisfactorily. Tea has been served in the boat house every afternoon after rowing which has afforded the men an opportunity to get together and talk things over after work.

The men will row in the following order:

University crew--Stroke, Chanler; 7, Schall; 6, Middendorf; 5, Curtis; 4, Harwood; 3, Reynolds; 2, Talcott; bow, Murray; cox., Gallaher.

Second--Stroke, Chichester; 7, Meyer; 6, Parson; 5, Carver; 4, Busk; 3, Whitmarsh; 2, Herrick; bow, Storrow; cox., Kreger.

Third--Stroke, Lund; 7, Emerson; 6, Graham; 5, Hubbard; 4, Jeffries; 3, Boyer; 2, E. Curtis; bow, Wilkinson; cox., Enright.
