OPERA SEASON OPENS NOV. 24

The fifth season of Grand Opera in Boston under the direction of Mr. Henry Russell, will commence with a performance of "The Jewels of the Madonna," on Monday evening, November 24. The season will consist of eighteen weeks, including seventy-two performances, given on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings, and Saturday afternoons. Messrs. Felix Weingartner, Andre-Caplet and Moranzoni have been re-engaged as principal conductors.

The list of operas chosen for the season includes, in addition to works already given, three not before presented by the Boston Opera Company: Wagner's "Die Meistersinger," Zandonai and D'Annunzio's "Francesca Da Rimini," and Fevrier and Maeterlinck's "Monna Vanna." The latter will have its first American presentation here early in December; Miss Garden will be the Monna Vanna, Mr. Muratore the Prinzivalle, and Mr. Marcoux the Guido. "Francesca Da Rimini" will have its world's premiere at the Boston Opera House in February or early March, and both composer and author have promised to be present on this auspicious occasion.

An agreement has been made between the Boston, New York, Chicago, and Montreal companies, whereby there will be an exchange of artists whenever convenient. Some of the artists who have arranged for occasional visits, but whose appearance is not guaranteed, are Frances Alda, Alessandro Bonci, Enrico Caruso, Florencio Constantino, Olive Fremstad, Johanna Gadski, Lillian Nordica, and Antonio Scott. Of the regular company, some of the best known are Lina Cavalieri, Emmy Destinn, Louise Edvina, Mary Garden, Alice Neilson, Evelyn Scotney, Louisa Tetrazzini, Maria Gay, Cara Sapin, Edmond Clement, Vincenzo Tantongo, and Vanni Marcoux.
