Though we have not yet reached the first anniversary of the invasion of the Union by the movies, we can already see that their conquest is going to be complete, for the Union committee has wisely chosen to show them as an attraction to the youngest class in College. Some day, perhaps not more than a few years hence, movies in the Union will be a well-established and inviolable tradition, but we hope that the class of 1917 will not snub them tonight merely because they have not come to that respectable stage yet.
The pictures, however, are not the prime purpose of the entertainment for Freshmen in the Union. They are just serving as bait to draw men into a meeting that is going to force on all who attend some of the best help that Harvard can give them. What with speeches by the major sport captains, practice in singing the football songs, and a general mingling among classmates and upperclassmen, no man could fail to spend a profitable and enjoyable evening. There seems to be a sort of intangible spirit of enthusiasm breaking out in the College this fall,--the crowd at the football game Saturday showed it,--and tonight every man in 1917 should feel it his duty to get into the swing of it. Therefore, we advise Freshmen to take the bait offered them and make use of this opportunity to imbibe a liberal amount of the College spirit which we must have this year to help our men live up to the marks set for them last.
