UNIVERSITY CREW ON RIVER

First Boat Took Short Spin Yesterday.--Forty Men Reported for First Day of Voluntary Practice.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

In the face of the predicted cold snap, the University crew held practice on the river yesterday afternoon. This is the first time on record that the crew has rowed on the river in January. Practice consisted of a twenty-minute row up the river. The men took their places in the following order: stroke, Pirnie; 7, Meyer; 6, Harwood; 5, Mills; 4; MacVicar; 3, Reynolds; 2, Fuller; bow, Carver; coxswain Abeles.

Voluntary practice started in the Newell boathouse yesterday, about 40 men reporting. This practice will continue throughout this month, Coaches Wray, Brown and Stephenson being on hand every afternoon from 2.30 until 5.30 to give individual instruction. This is an excellent opportunity for men who have not had previous experience, and all who can should report as soon as possible.
