Upon his own confession of professionalism, James Thorpe, the celebrated Carlisle athlete, has been disqualified as an amateur by the Amateur Athletic Union. James E. Sullivan, secretary of the Union, stated yesterday that there would be a sweeping investigation into the records of a number of other men. This move will necessitate the remission of all the trophies Thorpe has won in recent contests, including these which he took at, the Olympic games in Sweden last summer.
