FRESHMAN FOOTBALL TEAM

Material Lacking in Line But Good in Backs and Ends.--Squad of 80.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

About 30 men reported to the coaches on Soldiers Field for Freshman football before the commencement of the College year. In the next week the number increased to 80, and this is about the number the coaches are working with at present. Two squads were formed Thursday, consisting of a first squad of the 30 most promising candidates and a second squad containing the remaining candidates. In a general way, it may be stated that there is a rather poor supply of line material; while the backfield is strong, and there are any number of ends. The first game will be played on October 9 against Groton School, although there is some probability of a game on October 5 with the University second team.
