Summer School Registration

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The registration at the Summer Schools this year was unusually large, exceeding that of last year by 29. The attendance was 807 as against 778 who took courses last year.

Figures showing the occupations of students at the School during the two years disclose some interesting facts. Of those attending the School in Cambridge practically sixty per cent. are teachers of one kind or another; and of these in turn thirty-three per cent. are from the grade schools. The number of teachers from the high schools comes next.

By far the largest class among the remaining occupations is that of students of the University. Only a few in each of the others are registered.

Following is a summary for the summers of 1911 and 1912:   1911  1912 Teachers in colleges,  40  28 normal schools,  5  8 high schools,  96  87 endowed schools,  47  37 grade schools, etc,  113  102 Superintendents,  5  8 Principals and supervisors,  49  47   --  -- Total teachers,  355  317 Harvard students,  87  98 Students of other colleges,  49  55 Social workers,  5  9 Clergymen,  5  9 Lawyers,  0  10 Physicians,  2  4 Librarians,  2  3 Secretaries,  3  5 Artists,  2  2 Journalists,  3  2 No occupation given,  68  76   --  -- Total,  581  590 Students in the Engineering Camp and students in Physical Culture courses,  202  222   --  --   783  812 Deduct for names counted twice,  5  5   --  --   778  807
