EXETER DEFEATED, 3 TO 1

Schoolboys Played Good Game Against More Experienced Men.

In What was more or less of a practice game the University baseball team defeated Phillips Exeter Academy by the score of 3 to 1 Saturday afternoon on Soldiers field. Harvard used three pitchers: Bartholf held the New Hampshire team hitless for four innings, Hitchcock allowed two hits in two innings, and Hardy allowed three hits in the remaining two innings. The game was called at the end of the eighth, so that the Exeter team could catch a train.

The game was marked by clean fielding, the school boys playing without an error and Harvard making but one. The University team furnished the hitting features of the afternoon. Gibson connected safely four times out of an equal number at bat and Clark got a two bagger and a tripple out of four times up. Bolton also landed on the ball for a three-base bit. In all Harvard got nine hits, but showed the failing which has lost it a number of games; namely, inability to hit with men on bases. Taylor of the visitors, although wild at times, pitched a good game against more experienced opponents.
