Fully 10,000 people, mostly school children, attended the first annual field day of the Cambridge Public Schools in the Stadium yesterday afternoon. The program consisted of competitive mass events for grammar school grades and high school girls, a dual track meet between Cambridge High and Latin School and Rindge Manual Training School, and special events for boys who are members of the regular gymnasium classes of both high schools. There were also demonstrations of class room drills and folk dances by the grammar school grades and high school girls.

Cambridge Latin Won Dual Track Meet.

Cambridge High and Latin School won the dual meet by the score of 73 1-2 to 68 1-2. The meet was exceedingly closely contested and the teams were tied until the 440-yards relay race for younger boys, which was won by the Latin School by a yard. The best performances of the afternoon were in the broad jump, which was won by Sullivan, of Rindge, with a jump of 20 feet, and in the high jump, which Harvey, of Rindge, won with a jump of 5 feet, 2 inches. The 880-yards relay race was won by Rindge in easy fashion.

Folk Dancing and Gymnastic Exhibition.

The folk dancing was especially well received by the spectators, especially that by the grammar grade students, who showed remarkable ability and grace. The gymnastic exhibition showed the results of careful preparation, the Thorndike School being especially proficient and uniform.

Prizes Awarded by School Department.

Medals were given to the winners of first and second places in the track events, while field day badges were presented to the grammar school pupils whose teams won their events. All the regular prizes were awarded by the Cambridge school department. The special medals were given by a number of Cambridge citizens in an endeavor to encourage gymnastics and athletics generally among the school children of Cambridge.
