SECOND TEAM WON; 1915 LOST

In an uninteresting, slow and onesided game yesterday afternoon the University second baseball team defeated South Boston High School on Soldiers Field by the score of 12 to 1. Both teams played poorly, the college nine winning only because it did not play quite as badly as the visiting team. Although the second made a total of nine hits this hitting was certainly not due to good batting ability on the part of the Harvard players, the opposing pitchers being very weak. The second as it played yesterday would be an easy victim for any first-class school or Freshman team.

Murphy was easily the star of the South Boston team, as he made two triples and a single out of four times at bat thus receiving the only three hits made by his team. Buffum pitching for the second, struck out sixteen men, gave one base on balls and allowed but the three hits above mentioned.

Waltham High 11; Freshmen 10.

The Freshman baseball team, though making a spirited rally in the last half of the ninth inning, was unable to overcome a lead of five runs obtained by Waltham High School in the eighth and ninth innings and was defeated 11 to 10 in yesterday afternoon's game on Soldiers Field. Watson held Waltham to nine hits, but he gave nine bases on balls and was poorly supported at critical times. Although the Waltham pitcher allowed 12 hits, he was steadier than Watson and the team behind him played much headier and better ball. DeWindt and Hardwick excelled at bat for the Freshmen, each securing three singles.
