The annual Northfield Student Conference of Young Men's Christian Associations for colleges of the East will be held this year from June 21 to 30, inclusive, as usual at East Northfield, on the grounds of the Northfield Seminary.
Purpose of the Conference.
The primary purpose of the Conference is to provide a natural opportunity for men from the different colleges to meet for an unhurried consideration, in especially agreeable surroundings, of the vital significance of Christianity for the colleges and for the college man in his various callings. The daily program includes two meetings of all the delegations, group classes for Bible study, mission study, or the study of social problems, and larger group conferences on life work. The afternoons are given over entirely to recreation; an intercollegiate baseball series, a tennis tournament and a track meet are among the diversions arranged. The leaders and speakers, who are always men well acquainted with student life, will be the following: Dr. D. S. Cairns, Mr. John R. Mott, Mr. G. Glenn Atkins, Mr. Robert E. Speer, Mr. G. A. Johnston Ross, and Mr. E. T. Colton.
Expenses and Plans for Harvard Men.
The Harvard delegation will number at least 100 men this year, and possibly more than that number will attend. The men will be lodged in Gould Hall, a new building which is to be opened for the first time this year. The total expense for the ten days will amount to $21.00 as follows: round-trip railway fare, $4.00; registration fee, $5.00; board, $9.00; and lodging, $3.00. Arrangement will be made to send a number of delegates with their expenses part-paid, and an opportunity will be given any man to apply for free board if he is willing to wait on table during the ten days of the Conference.
Committee in Charge and Meeting Tonight.
Last year the Harvard delegation won the intercollegiate track meet which was held during the Conference. It is expected that this year's athletic program will be in charge of Oliver F. Cutts L.'03, a former member of the University football team. Arrangements for the Harvard delegation are in charge of the following committee: W. M. Danner, Jr., '13, chairman; R. C. Babson '12, C. B. Randall '12, J. R. Sibley '12, C. B. Harris '13, J. P. Brown '14, G. F. Plimpton '14, P. H. Stafford '14, L. O. Wright '14, H. Francke '15, and J. C. Talbot '15.
All men who are interested in Northfield and who desire to find out what the Conference stands for, are cordially invited to attend the Northfield Social meeting which will be held in the Parlor of Phillips Brooks House this evening at 8 o'clock.
