By defeating Cornell on Soldiers Field yesterday afternoon by a score of 6 to 0 the University association football team secured its first victory in the intercollegiate series. The team showed better form than ever before this season; the work of the forwards was noticeably improved, the backfield being the weakest part of the line-up.
Cornell on Defensive.
Murdoch scored for Harvard early in the game. Cornell was continually on the defensive, with the ball in its territory most of the time, and Byng made the second tally by a clever corner kick.
In the second period, the University team rushed the play. Greene scored on a difficult shot after fifteen minutes. Cornell then took the ball down the field threatening Harvard's goal, but good work by Browne prevented a score. Greene soon scored another goal, and almost immediately Murdoch tallied again. Needham was responsible for the last goal, taking the ball from mid-field and scoring unaided.
The summary: Score-Harvard, 6; Cornell, 0. Referee, A. Williams, Lynn. Linesmen, C. Burgess, T. C. Hardwick '13. Goals-Murdoch 2, Greene 2, Byng, Needham.
