TECHNOLOGY'S LATEST GIFT.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

It is indeed a great tribute to the usefulness of an institution when a man who is not one of its alumni comes forward and contributes two and a half million dollars toward its support. Harvard has been watching with keen interest the steps that have led up to the final climax that makes possible the construction of the "New Technology" on this side of the Charles, and in the achievement of such unqualified success, our sister institution has our heartiest congratulations.

There may be a difference of opinion among older men as to the relative merits of liberal and technical training. Harvard is primarily an institution of Liberal Arts and Technology, we are proud to admit, stands well in the van of technical schools. It is our belief that the one is the complement of the other. Progress in the field of industry and invention can not be achieved in this country without there are capable and highly trained technical experts. In supplying these, Technology does our country an eminent service. But beside technical training, there is another quality which every real leader, whether he be engineer or administrator, must have and that is an insight into the deeper workings of human nature. This we claim is the priceless gift of the college of Liberal Arts. The closer relations that will surely arise between Harvard and Technology in the future should have a great effect in increasing the usefulness of each.
